Soumitra Bhattacharya, with a rich tenure of over 28 years at the Bosch Group, has exemplified diversified leadership across multiple geographies and functions. A Chartered Accountant by profession, his journey scaled from being the Vice President of Commercial Functions at Bosch's Nashik and Jaipur plants, to General Manager at the prestigious Feuerbach Plant in Germany, Bosch's largest diesel systems manufacturing hub.
His strategic foresight during 2005-2009 leading Bosch Turkey earned the distinguished EFQM award win in 2008. Following this, Soumitra steered Bosch Ltd. as the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) from 2011 to 2016 and then as Joint Managing Director (2012-2016) and later as Managing Director (2017-2023) and as the Regional President for the Bosch Group in India until his retirement on June 30, 2023. His portfolio encompassed strategizing for Robert Bosch India, spearheading Business Development, Human Resources, Government Relations, and Corporate Social Responsibilities for the region.
On a personal front, Soumitra, married to Dr. (Mrs.) Chandana Bhattacharya (Founder and Trustee for Ekakanya Trust), is a father of two, with a penchant for travel, social service, and deep interest in intercultural activities.
His commitment to industry excellence continued post-retirement when he assumed the role of CEO and Director at Indian Foundation for Quality Management (IFQM) in July 2023, an initiative driven by captains of industry centred around Quality, Excellence, and Innovation.
Soumitra's professional voyage, spanning 39 years, began even before his time at Bosch, with key management roles at TATA Steel, IPITATA, INDAL, and as one of the founding members for Tanishq of Titan Company Limited. A chartered accountant by profession, his academic foundation was laid at The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, post which he completed his Articleship from Price Waterhouse.
Concurrently, he has been a significant part of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), chairing the Karnataka State Council for CII in India (2013-2014), co-chairing for CII-National Skills Committee (2017-2019), chairing the CII National Committee on MNCs (2020-2023), and contributing passionately towards business excellence and corporate agility from 2013 to 2023.
He has spoken extensively in India and across the world on various platforms - Social and Corporate, on topics which he is passionate - Quality, Business Excellence, Innovation, and Business Strategy.
